What type of lawnmower should I buy?

There are many different types of lawnmowers on the market, so it can be tough to decide which one is right for you. Here is a brief overview of the different types of lawnmowers available, as well as some factors to consider when making your decision.

Walk-behind petrol lawn mowers

The most common type of lawnmower is the walk-behind petrol lawn mower. These mowers are powered by a petrol engine and are typically used on small to medium-sized lawns. They are lightweight and easy to maneuver, but they can be difficult to push on uneven or hilly terrain.

Self-propelled petrol lawn mowers

Self-propelled petrol lawn mowers are powered by a petrol engine, but they also have a drive system that propels the mower forward. This makes them easier to push than walk-behind mowers, especially on uneven or hilly terrain. However, they are also more expensive than walk-behind mowers, with most models being similar to the push, just with the drive system added as an extra. Some mowers also come with a rear roller, creating a lovely striped finish & making it easier to mow around edges & borders. The Honda HRX476QY is a great model with a rear roller whioch can be found here.

Ride-on lawn mowers

Ride-on lawn mowers are powered by a petrol engine and have a seat that allows the operator to sit while mowing. These mowers are ideal for large lawns, as they can cover a lot of ground quickly. You can get out-front riders, traditional garden tractors or zero-turn machines. SOme also have a range of attachments to expand the tasks that the rider can do. However, they tend to be the most expensive type of lawnmower.

Battery powered lawn mowers

Battery powered lawn mowers are powered by a battery that can be recharged. These mowers are becoming increasingly popular, as they are quiet and produce zero emissions during use. They can be more expensive than petrol-powered mowers due to the initial cost of buying the battery and charger, and have a shorter runtime. This is off-set however by offering long-term savings like not buying petrol, reduced servicing costs and the flexibility of using the batteries in other garden machinery.

Robotic lawn mowers

Robotic lawn mowers are self-propelled mowers that are controlled by a computer. These mowers are designed to mow your lawn without any input from you. They are an expensive type of lawnmower, but they can save you a lot of time and effort. Some robotic mowers will require cables to be dug under your lawn to define the cutting area, while some pricier models work via GPS and can be completely configured via an app on your phone.

Factors to consider when making your decision

When deciding which type of lawnmower is right for you, there are a few factors to consider:

  • The size of your lawn
  • The type of grass you have
  • Your budget
  • Your personal preferences

If you have a small lawn, a walk-behind petrol mower may be a good option. If you have a large lawn, a ride-on lawn mower or robotic mower may be a better choice. If you have slopes or gradual hills, a self-propelled lawn mower may be a good option. If you are on a tight budget, a small walk-behind petrol mower or battery powered mower may be the best option. If you are looking for a quiet and environmentally friendly mower, a battery powered lawn mower would be a good choice. If you are looking for a mower to free up your time, a robotic lawn mower would be the best choice.
